Healthy and Spicy Apple Chips

Today I bring you a healthy snack recipe that I'm sure you're going to love. You probably already know the traditional apple chip recipe (if not, keep reading!); simple apple chips make such a great and healthy snack! It's unbelievable you only need apples!

You can make simple plain apple chips if you like them sweet, or you can spice things a little bit. They make a great on-the-go snack, to curb those cravings.

Ingredients:

- 1 green apple
- 1 tsp pink salt
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp black pepper

Procedure:

1. Slice your apple as thinly as possible. I personally like to use a mandolin, but this is not needed, use a sharp knife to cut even and consistent 3 mm slices. The thinner your slices are, the quicker they will bake. Just make sure that they are all about the same thickness so they bake evenly.

2. Line the apple slices making a single layer on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. It's important to use parchment paper because the apple slices may stick to other types of baking sheets. If you do decide to use a conventional baking sheet, make sure to spray it before hand with cooking spray so they can come off swiftly. Also do not let the slices overlap, because they will stick together.

3. Sprinkle cracked pink salt, black pepper and paprika on your arranged slices. You can add any other spices as well if you'd like it to be spicier (or just leave the apple slices without seasoning for plain apple chips)

4. Bake in the oven at 110ºC, they will take a loooong time, but it's definitely worth it, I make two batches simultaneously to save time, but once you pop them in the oven, you can just set a timer to 1 1/2 hours, once the time's up, turn off the oven and let them cool off inside for the ultimate crispiness. They will only be crispy once they've cooled off, so be patient.


I like to use green apples for this spicy version because it keeps that tangy kick that goes so nicely with spice; but any kind of apple can be used, especially if you making plain ones. Sweeter apples result in sweeter chips, many people like sprinkling them with cinnamon powder!
